Akashi sits in southern Hyogo Prefecture on the main rail corridor between Kobe, Osaka, and Himeji. The city has two main JR West stations for intercity use: Akashi Station on the JR Kobe Line and Nishi-Akashi Station, where the Sanyo Shinkansen meets conventional JR lines. Sanyo Electric Railway also serves the city with parallel regional rail along the Hanshin corridor.
Trains from Akashi include JR West Special Rapid and local services on the JR Kobe Line, Sanyo Shinkansen services from Nishi-Akashi, and Sanyo Electric Railway trains from Sanyo Akashi Station. Akashi Station is the central stop for frequent regional travel, while Nishi-Akashi is the train station used for bullet train connections across western Japan.
Rail routes from Akashi run east toward Kobe, Sannomiya, Osaka, and Kyoto, west toward Himeji and Okayama, and farther along the Sanyo Shinkansen toward Hiroshima, Hakata, and Kyushu connections. Book trains from and to Akashi online at Rail Monsters.
