Shizuoka sits on Japan's Tokaido rail corridor between Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, and Osaka. The city has one main intercity train station, Shizuoka Station, served by JR Central. Its role is that of a mid-corridor Shinkansen and regional rail hub for central Shizuoka Prefecture, with trains to Shizuoka using the same east-west axis as Japan's busiest high-speed route.
Services from Shizuoka include Tokaido Shinkansen trains, mainly Kodama services with selected Hikari stops, plus JR Central local and rapid trains on the Tokaido Main Line. Shizuoka Station is the main train station for long-distance train tickets, while Higashi-Shizuoka and Abekawa handle local Tokaido Main Line services within the city area.
Rail routes from Shizuoka run east toward Tokyo, Shin-Yokohama, Atami, and Mishima, west toward Hamamatsu, Toyohashi, Nagoya, Kyoto, and Shin-Osaka, and locally across Shizuoka Prefecture on the Tokaido Main Line. Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport does not have a direct rail station, so passengers use rail plus bus transfers through nearby stations. Book trains from and to Shizuoka online at Rail Monsters.
