León is an important rail hub in northwest Spain, positioned on the main corridor between Madrid, Castilla y León, Asturias, and Galicia. The city has two passenger rail stations with different roles: León station for standard-gauge and Iberian-gauge long-distance services, and León Matallana for metric-gauge regional trains. Renfe operates the main passenger services in the city.
Trains from León include AVE and Alvia long-distance services on the Madrid-Asturias axis, Media Distancia regional services across Castilla y León, and Renfe Cercanías AM metric-gauge trains from León Matallana. León station is the main train station for intercity rail, with services continuing toward the Cantabrian coast, central Spain, and western Castilla y León.
Rail routes from León run south toward Madrid, Valladolid, Palencia, and Segovia, north toward Oviedo and Gijón, west toward Ponferrada and Galicia, and east on metric-gauge lines toward smaller towns in the province and onward toward Bilbao. Book trains from and to León online at Rail Monsters.
