Rockhampton is a Central Queensland passenger rail hub on the North Coast Line, with one principal passenger station serving the city. Queensland Rail operates its long-distance passenger services through Queensland Rail Travel. The city marks the northern terminus of the electric Tilt Train corridor from Brisbane, while through services continue farther north. This gives Rockhampton both a terminating intercity role and a place on Queensland's longer coastal railway corridor.
Rockhampton railway station handles the electric Tilt Train and the Spirit of Queensland. Trains from Rockhampton include daytime intercity departures and longer-distance coastal journeys, with overnight travel on some services. Trains to Rockhampton arrive at the same train station, so passengers changing between these services do not normally need a cross-city station transfer. Train tickets depend on the selected departure, accommodation, and fare conditions. Tilt Train services use conventional railway infrastructure rather than a dedicated high-speed line.
Southbound routes follow the coast toward Gladstone, Bundaberg, Maryborough West, and Brisbane. Northbound through trains serve Mackay and continue into North Queensland. Rockhampton Airport has no passenger rail connection, so airport transfers require road transport. Book trains from and to Rockhampton online at Rail Monsters.
