Practical Information for Eurostar and ICE Travelers

Paris - Dortmund connections involve two luggage policies and carrying your bags between trains in Cologne. The Eurostar rules below concern continental routes, not trains to London.

Luggage Allowance

Continental Eurostar allows two bags up to 75 x 53 x 30 cm each and one hand bag. There is no fixed weight limit, but you must carry and lift everything yourself. ICE permits hand luggage plus one larger item that you can handle independently.

Storage Facilities

Eurostar and ICE have overhead shelves and larger luggage racks; layouts vary by trainset. Keep doors and aisles clear, label your bags and take all luggage with you when changing at Cologne.

Special Items

Do not assume an assembled bicycle can travel on both segments. Continental Eurostar accepts folded or dismantled bicycles in suitable covers under its bicycle rules; ICE bicycle spaces exist only on selected trains and require a bicycle ticket and reservation. Check dimensions and conditions for sports equipment and large instruments before booking.
