Chikugo is a rail point in southern Fukuoka Prefecture, positioned between Kurume and Omuta on the JR Kyushu network. The city has two useful passenger stations: Chikugo-Funagoya for Kyushu Shinkansen and Kagoshima Main Line services, and Hainuzuka for conventional regional trains. Chikugo-Funagoya gives the city a direct role on the north-south high-speed corridor across Kyushu.
Rail services from Chikugo include Kyushu Shinkansen trains at Chikugo-Funagoya, local and rapid JR Kyushu trains on the Kagoshima Main Line, and regional links through nearby junctions such as Kurume and Tosu. Chikugo does not have a dedicated airport rail link, so travelers usually connect through Hakata for wider Fukuoka-area onward travel.
Trains from Chikugo run north toward Kurume, Tosu, Hakata, and Fukuoka, and south toward Omuta, Kumamoto, Sendai, and Kagoshima-Chuo. Shinkansen services also connect the city with the wider Kyushu high-speed network and selected through routes toward western Honshu via Hakata.
