Kitakyushu is a major rail hub at the northern tip of Kyushu, positioned between Fukuoka, the Kanmon Strait, and western Honshu. The city has several passenger stations, with Kokura Station acting as the main long-distance train station. JR West serves the Sanyo Shinkansen at Kokura, while JR Kyushu operates conventional intercity and regional trains across northern Kyushu.
Services from Kitakyushu include high-speed Shinkansen trains on the Sanyo corridor, JR Kyushu limited express trains such as Sonic toward the east coast of Kyushu, and regional services on the Kagoshima Main Line, Nippo Main Line, and lines toward Wakamatsu and Moji. Kokura Station is the main point for train tickets and long-distance departures, while Mojiko, Kurosaki, Orio, and Tobata handle important regional flows.
Rail routes from Kitakyushu run west toward Hakata and Fukuoka, east and south toward Oita, Beppu, and Miyazaki, northeast through the Kanmon area toward Shimonoseki, and along the Sanyo Shinkansen toward Hiroshima, Shin-Osaka, and Tokyo. Book trains from and to Kitakyushu online at Rail Monsters.
