Saitama is one of the most important rail hubs in the Greater Tokyo area, positioned immediately north of Tokyo on the main JR East corridors to northern and central Japan. The city has several passenger stations, with Omiya Station acting as the primary long-distance train station and one of the busiest transfer points on the JR East network.
Trains from Saitama include Shinkansen services on the Tohoku, Joetsu, Hokuriku, Yamagata, and Akita corridors, plus JR East local and rapid trains linking the city with Tokyo, Ueno, Shinjuku, and surrounding prefectures. Omiya also connects with Tobu Railway services on the Tobu Urban Park Line, while selected Narita Express services provide an airport rail link toward Narita Airport.
Rail routes from Saitama run south toward central Tokyo and Yokohama, north toward Utsunomiya, Sendai, and Morioka, northwest toward Takasaki and Niigata, and west toward Nagano, Toyama, and Kanazawa. Book trains from and to Saitama online at Rail Monsters.
