Shiraoi is a rail stop in southern Hokkaido on the JR Hokkaido Muroran Main Line, positioned between Tomakomai and Noboribetsu. The town has one main passenger train station, Shiraoi Station, used by limited express and local services. Its role is regional rather than national, linking the Iburi coast with the larger rail hubs at Sapporo, Minami-Chitose, Higashi-Muroran, and Hakodate.
Trains from Shiraoi include JR Hokkaido limited express services such as Hokuto on the Sapporo - Hakodate corridor and Suzuran on the Sapporo - Muroran corridor. Local trains also serve nearby communities on the Muroran Main Line. Shiraoi has no Shinkansen service, but passengers can connect to the Hokkaido Shinkansen by traveling south toward Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto.
Rail routes from Shiraoi run northwest toward Tomakomai, Minami-Chitose, and Sapporo, east along the coast toward Noboribetsu, Higashi-Muroran, and Muroran, and south across Hokkaido toward Oshamambe and Hakodate. Book trains from and to Shiraoi online at Rail Monsters.
