Gwangju is a major rail hub in southwestern South Korea, positioned on the Honam corridor between the Seoul area and the Jeolla region. The city has two passenger stations with different roles: Gwangju-Songjeong Station handles most long-distance services, while Gwangju Station serves selected conventional trains. Korail and SR both serve the city through high-speed and intercity rail.
Trains from Gwangju include KTX high-speed services operated by Korail, SRT high-speed services operated by SR, and conventional Korail trains such as ITX-Saemaeul and Mugunghwa where scheduled. Gwangju-Songjeong Station is the main train station for high-speed train tickets, with services using the Honam high-speed corridor and the Honam Line.
Rail routes from Gwangju run north toward Seoul, Suseo, Osong, Iksan, and Jeongeup, and southwest toward Naju and Mokpo. The city also connects with the wider Jeolla rail network through transfers at Iksan and other Honam Line stations. Book trains from and to Gwangju online at Rail Monsters.
