Inbound trains reach Gwangju mainly at Gwangju-Songjeong Station, with selected conventional Korail services also using Gwangju Station. KTX trains from Seoul Yongsan arrive in around 1h35m to 2h, depending on stops, while SRT services from Suseo reach Gwangju-Songjeong in around 1h35m to 2h. Trains from Iksan arrive in roughly 35m to 50m, and services from Jeongeup take about 20m to 30m. South Jeolla services from Mokpo reach Gwangju-Songjeong in around 35m to 55m, while trains from Naju arrive in about 10m.

Gwangju is a major rail hub in southwestern South Korea, positioned on the Honam corridor between the Seoul area and the Jeolla region.
