Castelo Branco is an important rail stop in central-eastern Portugal on the Beira Baixa Line. The city has one main passenger train station, Castelo Branco, served by Comboios de Portugal, commonly known as CP. Its rail role is based on connecting the inland Beira Baixa region with Lisbon, Entroncamento, Covilha, and Guarda.
Trains from Castelo Branco include CP Intercidades services for longer domestic trips and Regional trains for shorter links along the Beira Baixa corridor. Castelo Branco station is the main train station for all passenger rail services in the city. Portugal does not currently operate high-speed rail through Castelo Branco, so intercity and regional services form the practical rail network here.
Rail routes from Castelo Branco run southwest toward Abrantes, Entroncamento, Santarem, Lisbon Oriente, and Lisbon Santa Apolonia, and northeast toward Fundao, Covilha, and Guarda. Train tickets are used for domestic CP services, with connections at Entroncamento and Lisbon for other parts of Portugal. Book trains from and to Castelo Branco online at Rail Monsters.
