Coimbra sits on Portugal's main north-south rail axis between Lisbon and Porto, making it an important stop on the national CP network. The city is served by two passenger stations: Coimbra-B on the North Line for long-distance trains, and Coimbra station in the city center for local and regional connections. This station pair gives Coimbra a clear role as a central Portugal rail hub rather than a terminal city.
Trains from Coimbra include Alfa Pendular services, Intercidades trains, InterRegional and Regional services, and local CP trains between Coimbra-B and Coimbra station. Coimbra-B is the main train station for long-distance train tickets, while Coimbra station is used for central-city access and shorter movements within the local network. Portugal does not currently operate high-speed rail through Coimbra, but Alfa Pendular is the fastest conventional long-distance service on the route.
Rail routes from Coimbra run south toward Lisbon, Santarem, and the Algarve connection, north toward Aveiro, Porto, Braga, and Guimaraes, and regionally toward Figueira da Foz and towns across the Mondego corridor. Book trains from and to Coimbra online at Rail Monsters.
