Donghae is an important rail point on South Korea's east coast, positioned between Gangneung, Samcheok, and the inland Yeongdong corridor. The city has two useful passenger stations: Donghae Station as the main intercity stop and Mukho Station as a secondary coastal stop. Korail operates the passenger rail services serving Donghae, including long-distance and regional trains.
Trains from Donghae include KTX-Eum high-speed services on the Seoul corridor, ITX-Maum intercity services on selected routes, and Mugunghwa regional trains serving smaller stations in Gangwon Province. Donghae Station is the main train station for train tickets between the city and the capital area, while Mukho Station is used for local and regional rail access on the coast.
Rail routes from Donghae run west and northwest toward Seoul via Cheongnyangni, north toward Gangneung and Jeongdongjin, south toward Samcheok, and inland across Gangwon Province toward stations on the Yeongdong Line. Key destination cities include Seoul, Gangneung, Jeongdongjin, Samcheok, Taebaek, and Yeongju. Book trains from and to Donghae online at Rail Monsters.
