Aomori sits at the northern end of Japan's Honshu rail network, where Shinkansen services connect the Tohoku corridor with Hokkaido. The city has two main passenger stations: Shin-Aomori for high-speed rail and Aomori Station for regional services closer to the city center. JR East, JR Hokkaido, and Aoimori Railway all serve the Aomori area.
Trains from Aomori include Hayabusa Shinkansen services on the Tohoku Shinkansen and Hokkaido Shinkansen, regional JR East trains on the Ou Main Line and Tsugaru Line, and Aoimori Railway trains along the former Tohoku Main Line corridor. Shin-Aomori is the main train station for bullet train travel, while Aomori Station handles many local and regional departures.
Rail routes from Aomori run south toward Hachinohe, Morioka, Sendai, and Tokyo, north through the Seikan Tunnel toward Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto in Hokkaido, and west toward Hirosaki on regional JR East services. Book trains from and to Aomori online at Rail Monsters.
