Oshamambe is a railway junction in southern Hokkaido, positioned between the Sapporo area, Hakodate, the volcanic bay coast, and the Niseko mountain corridor. The city has one main passenger rail station, Oshamambe Station, operated by JR Hokkaido. Its rail role comes from the meeting point of the Hakodate Main Line and the Muroran Main Line, making trains from Oshamambe useful for both northbound and southbound travel.
Services from Oshamambe include JR Hokkaido Limited Express Hokuto trains on the main Sapporo - Hakodate axis and local trains on regional sections of the Hakodate Main Line. Oshamambe Station is the train station for long-distance reserved-seat services as well as local links toward smaller Hokkaido towns. There is no current Shinkansen service at Oshamambe; the Hokkaido Shinkansen extension is still under construction.
Rail routes from Oshamambe run north toward Sapporo, east along the Muroran Main Line toward Toya, Higashi-Muroran, and Tomakomai, south toward Hakodate, and west through the Hakodate Main Line toward Kutchan and Niseko. Book trains from and to Oshamambe online at Rail Monsters.
