Practical Information for Snabbtåg Travelers

Stockholm to Gothenburg trains carry luggage in the passenger area, not as checked baggage. SJ and VR have separate rules, so check your operator before bringing large or unusual items.

Luggage Allowance

On SJ, the standard allowance is two bags up to 80 x 50 x 35 cm and 20 kg each, plus a smaller hand item. You must be able to carry and store them yourself. Do not assume that SJ's dimensions are VR's allowance; check the VR conditions attached to your Stockholm to Gothenburg booking.

Storage Facilities

The Western Main Line, Västra stambanan, runs southwest from Stockholm through Södertälje, Katrineholm, Hallsberg, Skövde and Alingsås to Gothenburg. A station shown on the line is not necessarily a stop for your train. The route crosses inland farmland, forest and lake country before following the approach through the Säveån valley toward Göteborg Central; it is not a coastal route.
