Rail Monsters Refund & Cancellation Policy
At Rail Monsters, we operate as an independent ticketing service provider, facilitating the purchase of rail tickets on behalf of our customers through global rail suppliers. By purchasing a ticket via our platform, you agree to the terms and conditions of both the selected rail carrier and Rail Monsters.
1. Rail Carrier Terms & Conditions
All tickets sold on our platform are subject to the fare rules and refund/modification policies of the relevant rail carrier. These vary depending on the rail supplier, route, fare class, and ticket type.
Rail Monsters mirrors and applies the carrier's specific terms provided at the time of booking. If a rail supplier changes their fare policy after purchase, Rail Monsters follows the latest applicable version.
2. Rail Monsters Cancellation & Modification Policy
In addition to rail supplier rules, Rail Monsters reserves the right to apply the following service terms to any transaction completed through our platform:
Service Fee: All cancellations and modifications may be subject to an additional Rail Monsters service fee. The applicable fee ranges from 10% to 100% of the ticket price depending on the rail carrier, route, fare class, and time of cancellation. This fee is applied on top of any charges imposed by the rail carrier and will be confirmed at the time the cancellation request is submitted.
Advance Cancellation Policy: Cancellation and modification deadlines vary by carrier and country of travel. The minimum notice period ranges from 12 hours to 7 days prior to scheduled departure, depending on the service booked. The specific deadline applicable to your booking is communicated at checkout and in your booking confirmation. Requests submitted after the applicable deadline will not be processed regardless of the reason.
Processing Time: Refund requests are processed in line with the rail carrier's refund timelines. Rail Monsters will take all necessary steps to ensure refunds are processed within 14 business days of confirmation from the carrier.
Non-Refundable Fares: Some fares are strictly non-refundable or non-changeable. These conditions are defined by the rail carrier and are beyond Rail Monsters' control. We are not liable for any loss due to the carrier's enforcement of such policies.
Exclusive Processing Requirement: Cancellation and modification requests must be processed exclusively through Rail Monsters. If a ticket is changed, cancelled, or reissued directly with the rail carrier, at the station, or via any third-party service, Rail Monsters will not be able to verify such changes. In such cases, Rail Monsters bears no responsibility for the ticket status, refund eligibility, or any financial outcome, and no further cancellation, modification, or refund requests will be accepted.
Discretionary Application: The above policies may be applied or waived at the sole discretion of Rail Monsters, based on transaction complexity, route, or customer circumstances.
3. Cancellation Conditions by Country
The following outlines the cancellation deadlines and refund fees applied by Rail Monsters per country of travel, based on the fare rules of the supported carriers. These terms are displayed at checkout and form part of the agreement entered into by the passenger upon completing a purchase.
Japan — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 40% of the ticket value.
Korea — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 40% of the ticket value.
China — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 50% of the ticket value.
Taiwan — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 40% of the ticket value.
Indonesia — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 35% of the ticket value.
Laos — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 50% of the ticket value.
Saudi Arabia — Cancellation permitted. Cancellation deadline varies by service: 36 hours or 18 hours before departure depending on the route booked. Cancellation fee: 45% of the ticket value (service-dependent).
Turkiye — Cancellation subject to specific fare conditions. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 45% of the ticket value where applicable.
Morocco — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 50% of the ticket value.
Spain — Cancellation conditions vary by service. Where permitted, requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure and a cancellation fee of 40% applies. Certain services operate strictly non-refundable fares with no exceptions.
Portugal — Cancellation subject to specific fare conditions. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 30% of the ticket value where applicable.
Italy — Cancellation conditions vary by service. Where permitted, requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fees are tiered: between 50% and 100% applies for same-day cancellations; reduced fees apply for earlier requests. Certain services operate strictly non-refundable fares with no exceptions.
France — Cancellation subject to specific fare conditions. Requests must be submitted at least 36 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 50% of the ticket value where applicable.
Germany — Cancellation permitted on standard fares. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation penalties range from 50% to 100%.
Austria — Cancellation subject to specific fare conditions. Deadline and fee vary depending on the fare type selected at the time of booking.
Greece — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 35% of the ticket value.
Norway — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation penalties range from 35% to 100%.
Sweden — Cancellation permitted. Requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 35% of the ticket value.
Finland — Cancellation permitted if submitted more than 12 hours before departure. Cancellation fee: 50% of the ticket value. No refund or modification is available within 12 hours of departure. The specific conditions applicable to your booking are displayed at checkout prior to purchase.
United Kingdom / Europe (international rail) — Cancellation conditions vary by fare class. The applicable deadline and fee are displayed at checkout prior to purchase. Cancellation fee ranges from 30% to 55% of the ticket value depending on the fare selected. Depending on the fare class booked, the no-refund deadline is either 24 hours or 7 days before departure — no refund or modification is available within that period. The specific conditions confirmed at checkout are binding upon completion of purchase.
4. How to Request a Refund or Modification

5. Important Disclaimer
Rail Monsters does not operate any train services. We serve as an intermediary and cannot be held responsible for:
The operational decisions of rail carriers (e.g. schedule changes, train cancellations, refusal of boarding);
Delays or technical issues in the rail supplier's booking or refund system;
Losses incurred due to fare restrictions clearly communicated at time of booking.
By using our platform, you acknowledge and accept that ticket availability, refundability, and change options are ultimately governed by the policies of the respective rail carrier.
