Oyama is an important rail junction in southern Tochigi Prefecture, north of the Tokyo metropolitan rail corridor. The city has one main intercity train station, Oyama Station, and JR East operates all main passenger services serving it. Oyama's rail role comes from the meeting of the Tohoku Shinkansen with the Utsunomiya Line, Mito Line, and Ryomo Line.
Train services from Oyama include Tohoku Shinkansen trains for long-distance north-south travel, JR East regional trains on the Utsunomiya Line, eastbound Mito Line services across western Ibaraki, and westbound Ryomo Line services toward the Gunma side of the Kanto region. Oyama Station is the main train station for both high-speed and regional train tickets in the city.
Rail routes from Oyama run south toward Tokyo, Ueno, and Omiya, north toward Utsunomiya, Fukushima, Sendai, and Tohoku, east toward Yuki, Shimodate, and Mito, and west toward Tochigi, Sano, Ashikaga, and Maebashi. Book trains from and to Oyama online at Rail Monsters.
