High-speed services on the Shanghai to Gaoping route are typically a two-leg journey. The fastest option uses G-series Fuxing trains from Shanghai Hongqiao to Zhengzhou East at 300–350 km/h (186–217 mph), followed by a G/D-series high-speed train on the Taiyuan–Jiaozuo line to Gaoping East, running up to 250 km/h (155 mph). Total travel time is about 5 to 6.5 hours depending on the transfer at Zhengzhou East and intermediate stops. Seating on the high-speed legs includes Second Class, First Class, and on many G services Business Class, with power outlets, air-conditioning, and trolley or dining-car service. As an alternative, conventional Z/T/K trains cover much of the corridor on older lines toward Henan and southern Shanxi, with a final leg to Gaoping (non–high-speed station) or via nearby hubs such as Jincheng. These services run at up to 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph) and can take roughly 13 to 18 hours, often overnight. They offer Hard Seat, Soft Seat (limited), and sleeper options (Hard/Soft Sleeper). While slower, they provide a direct rail experience without relying on a high-speed transfer, and can be useful when high-speed connections are sold out.
