The fastest through G trains with limited stops at key hubs like Nanjing South and Hefei South cover the trip in about 3 hours 10 minutes to 3 hours 40 minutes, depending on the stopping pattern. In comparison, an itinerary that pairs a G-series train from Shanghai to Hefei South with a D-series EMU for the short hop to Shuchengdong runs at 200–250 km/h (124–155 mph) on the final leg and usually adds around 20–45 minutes to the journey. G-series sets (often CR400 Fuxing on the busiest segments) offer assigned seating, power outlets, and quieter Business Class with 1+2 seating, while D-series trains generally provide Second and First Class only with more intermediate stops. Conventional K/Z trains from Shanghai serve classic lines at 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph) and do not go to Shuchengdong, requiring a transfer and a much longer total travel time.
