High-speed trains on the Shanghai to Yuanpingxi route are a mix of G-series Fuxing and D-series CRH services, usually with a change at Taiyuan South (some itineraries also change at Zhengzhou East). G-series Fuxing CR400 sets run up to 350 km/h (217 mp/h) on the Shanghai–Xuzhou–Zhengzhou high-speed corridors, then continue on 250 km/h (155 mp/h) lines toward Shanxi. From Zhengzhou East to Taiyuan South and onward to Yuanpingxi (on the Datong–Xi’an high-speed railway), services are limited to 250 km/h (155 mp/h), typically operated by Fuxing CR300 or CRH2/CRH3 units. Fastest G+G or G+D journeys take about 6 hours 45 minutes to 8 hours, while schedules using more D segments with extra stops are around 8.5 to 11 hours. Usual intermediate stops include Nanjing South, Xuzhou East, Zhengzhou East, and Taiyuan South.
G-series offer Second, First, and Business Class; D-series generally provide Second and First Class. Both have reserved seating, power sockets, air conditioning, and a trolley for drinks and light meals, with hot water dispensers on board and station facilities at major hubs. Choose G-heavy itineraries for the shortest end-to-end time between Shanghai Hongqiao and Yuanpingxi, or combine G and D sections if you prefer a wider choice of departure times and access to regional stops en route.
