High-speed trains on the Shanghai to Yunmengdong (Yunmeng East) route operate via Wuhan on China’s HSR network. The fastest option is the G-series high-speed service, typically using Fuxing or Hexie EMUs. These run at 250–300 km/h (155–186 mph) on the Shanghai–Nanjing–Hefei–Wuhan corridor, then continue on the Wuhan–Shiyan high-speed line to Yunmeng East. With a same-station change at Wuhan Station, the overall journey is usually about 4 hours 50 minutes to 5 hours 30 minutes, depending on stops such as Nanjing South, Hefei South, and Xiaogan East.
D-series high-speed trains also cover much of this route at 200–250 km/h (124–155 mph). They make more intermediate stops and often require a transfer in Wuhan, leading to total travel times around 6 to 7.5 hours. For the smoothest connection, select G trains arriving at Wuhan Station to link directly to the Wuhan–Shiyan line serving Yunmeng East (Yunmengdong).
Onboard, G-series trains offer Second, First, and Business Class seating, while D-series usually provide Second and First Class. Expect power outlets, air-conditioning, restrooms, and trolley service. As a slower alternative, conventional overnight trains from Shanghai Station to Yunmeng (not Yunmeng East) run at 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph) and take roughly 10–12 hours, after which a short local transfer is needed to reach Yunmeng East.
