Kodama trains leave Odawara Station for Shin-Fuji Station in Fuji city, calling at Atami and Mishima. Shin-Fuji and Fuji are separate stations without a connecting railway, so allow a bus or taxi transfer if your destination is Fuji Station. Approaching Shin-Fuji from Odawara, Mount Fuji can be visible on the right in clear weather; an Ordinary E window seat faces that side. Ordinary non-reserved tickets do not guarantee a seat, while Green Car requires a reservation. Practical Information for Shinkansen Travelers

Tokaido Shinkansen luggage rules apply even on the short Odawara - Shin-Fuji Kodama trip. Measure large cases before selecting your seats.

Luggage Allowance

On Kodama, bring up to two pieces, each up to 30 kg and 250 cm in combined length, width, and height, with length no more than 200 cm. Personal items are excluded from the two-piece count. A case over 160 cm requires an appropriate oversized-luggage seat reservation.

Storage Facilities

Kodama trainsets have overhead racks for smaller cases. The oversized-luggage area behind the last row is linked to designated reserved seats; do not assume it is general storage. Keep aisles and doors clear for the intermediate stops at Atami and Mishima.

Special Items

Bicycles on Kodama must be dismantled or folded and fully enclosed in a cycle bag. Sports equipment and musical instruments have exceptions to the oversized-seat reservation rule, but must be packed and safely stowed. Reserve suitable space if you intend to use the oversized-luggage area.

The Tokaido Shinkansen runs west from Odawara through Atami and Mishima to Shin-Fuji. Tunnels cross the mountainous terrain around Atami before the line reaches the flatter ground south of Mount Fuji. Clear-weather views of the mountain are on the right approaching Shin-Fuji. Fuji Station lies separately on the Tokaido Main Line; it is not a Shinkansen stop or an in-station interchange.

Kodama provides frequent station-to-station travel from Odawara to Shin-Fuji without airport transfers. This is not a city-center to city-center connection if you need Fuji Station, because a separate local transfer remains necessary. Kodama is the direct Shinkansen service linking Odawara and Shin-Fuji, normally taking roughly 30 to 40 minutes. It stops at both Atami and Mishima; Hikari and Nozomi do not stop at Shin-Fuji. Tokaido Shinkansen trains have a line maximum of 285 km/h (177 mph), not a constant speed throughout this short section. Compare individual Kodama departures for station-wait differences rather than looking for a faster named service. All offer Ordinary and Green Car seating; operator: JR Central.
