High-speed trains connect Shanghai and Longyan with two main options. Direct D-series (Dongche) services run from Shanghai Hongqiao to Longyan, cruising at 200–250 km/h (124–155 mph) on the Hefei–Fuzhou high-speed corridor and around 200 km/h (124 mph) on the Nanping–Longyan section. Typical journey time is about 6.5–8 hours, with stops that often include Nanjing South, Hefei South, Huangshan North, Shangrao, and Nanping.
Alternatively, a G-series + D-series combination can be quicker: take a G train from Shanghai Hongqiao to Xiamen North, reaching 300–350 km/h (186–217 mph) on the Shanghai–Hangzhou stretch and about 250–300 km/h (155–186 mph) along the coast, then transfer to a D train inland to Longyan running at 160–200 km/h (99–124 mph). With a well-timed change, total travel is typically 6.5–7.5 hours.
Both options offer reserved seating in Second and First Class (some G trains add Business Class), air-conditioned cars, power outlets, hot water dispensers, and trolley service. Direct D trains suit those preferring a no-change ride, while the G+D combo can shave time when connections align. As a slower alternative, conventional overnight Z/K trains from Shanghai South run at up to 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph) and take roughly 12–14 hours, with Hard and Soft Sleeper accommodations.
