Two main services run between Shanghai and Hengyang. G-series high-speed trains operate from Shanghai Hongqiao to Hengyang East, most commonly using Fuxing (CR400) and Hexie (CRH380) sets. They run up to 300–350 km/h (186–217 mph), though much of this route is limited to around 300 km/h (186 mph). Typical journey times on direct G trains are about 5 hours 15 minutes to 6 hours 30 minutes, often calling at Hangzhou East, Nanchang West, and Changsha South. Some departures require a same-station change at Changsha South, adding roughly 20–40 minutes. Seating options include Second, First, and Business Class, with power outlets and trolley service onboard. Conventional long-distance services (Z/T/K series) link Shanghai (Shanghai Railway Station) with Hengyang (city station) at lower speeds of about 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph). These trains usually take 12–16 hours and offer Hard/Soft Seat and Hard/Soft Sleeper berths. They suit overnight travel but are significantly slower than G-series high-speed options to Hengyang East.
