China Railway – G – Second Class

Second Class on China’s G-category high-speed trains offers a budget-friendly and efficient travel option. Seats are arranged in a 2+3 layout, meaning three seats on one side and two on the other. Each seat has a folding tray, reclining back, and access to shared power sockets (usually under the seats).

Cars are air-conditioned, clean, and quiet, with luggage racks above seats and larger storage at the car ends. Restrooms and a hot water dispenser are available on board. It’s the most popular class for both local commuters and long-distance travelers.

This is the mid-tier class on China’s G-category high-speed trains, known locally as “First Class”, but listed as Business Class on our platform to avoid confusion with the top-tier.

Seats are arranged in a comfortable 2+2 layout, offering wider seats, more legroom, and fewer passengers per coach than Economy. Each seat includes a reclining back, tray table, and personal power outlet, making it ideal for longer journeys or travelers who want more space without paying for top-tier luxury.

Cabins are air-conditioned, quiet, and equipped with restrooms and hot water dispensers. A great balance between value and comfort.

China Railway – G – Standing Class

Standing Class tickets are the lowest fare option on China’s G-category high-speed trains. They do not include a seat — passengers must stand in designated areas near the car ends or occupy any vacant seat until claimed by a ticketed passenger.

These tickets grant access to Second Class cars, and include the same onboard amenities like air conditioning, luggage storage, restrooms, and hot water dispensers.

Ideal for short-distance trips or when all seats are sold out. Standing Class can be crowded during peak travel times.

Business Class Seat (Lounge Seat)*

This is the top-tier class in China, categorized as First Class on our platform to align with international airline-style naming. Business Class on G-trains features lie-flat leather seats arranged in 2+1 layout with extensive legroom, power outlets, personal lights, and often direct lounge boarding access, where available. It’s a quiet, private, and exclusive space suited for luxury travel or executive trips.

(*In Chinese rail terminology, this is “Business Class,” but on our platform it is categorized as First Class, to match international standards.)

At select major stations, passengers in this class may board directly from Business Class Lounges, offering a more private and seamless boarding experience.

China Railway – G Train – Superior Class (Deluxe)

Superior Class cars are rarely offered on G-trains, but when available, they sit between First and Business Class in comfort. The layout varies but typically includes reclining leather seats, quieter cabins, and more privacy than standard First Class. These cars are few and usually found on select trains.

This upgraded sleeper class offers private compartments with two wide, fully flat beds per cabin — ideal for overnight high-speed travel. Each compartment is equipped with individual reading lights, a small table, power sockets, and sliding doors for extra privacy and quiet.
