High-speed trains on the Shanghai to Putian route offer a choice of Second Class, First Class, and on many G-series services, Business Class seating, giving travelers clear options for space and comfort. Most departures use Shanghai Hongqiao and arrive at Putian on the coastal corridor in Fujian.
The fastest option is the G-series Fuxing service (CR400AF/BF sets), which can reach up to 350 km/h (217 mph) on the Shanghai–Hangzhou and Fuzhou–Xiamen high-speed sections, with other stretches operated around 200–250 km/h (124–155 mph). Typical end-to-end travel time ranges from about 4 hours 50 minutes to around 6 hours depending on stopping patterns, with limited stops at major hubs such as Hangzhou East, Ningbo, Wenzhou South, and Fuzhou before continuing to Putian.
By comparison, D-series Hexie trains (commonly CRH1/CRH2) run mainly at 200–250 km/h (124–155 mph), make more regional stops, and generally take about 6.5 to 8 hours for the journey. Onboard amenities across both categories include reserved seating, power outlets, tray tables, overhead luggage space, and hot water dispensers, while G-series Business Class adds wider seats and a quieter cabin. If a direct train is not available at the desired time, a quick same-day connection at Fuzhou or Xiamen North is commonly used with only a modest increase in total travel time.
