End‑to‑end travel time typically ranges from about 7.5 to 9 hours depending on the connection. Trains feature power outlets, reclining seats, and trolley service. Alternatively, selecting a D‑series train for the Shanghai–Xi’an leg (top 250 km/h (155 mph)) involves more intermediate stops and extends the overall journey to roughly 9–11 hours, but some travelers prefer it for pricing or schedule reasons. The final Xi’an–Qingyang sector remains on the same 250 km/h (155 mph) line. D‑series sets generally provide Second and First Class seating, and on select dates some operate as EMU sleepers.
