High-speed G-series trains run from Shanghai Hongqiao to Sanmenxia South (Sanmenxia Nan), using China Railway’s Fuxing CR400 and some Hexie CRH380 sets. These services operate at up to 300–350 km/h (186–217 mph) on the Shanghai–Nanjing, Nanjing–Xuzhou, and Xuzhou–Zhengzhou high-speed corridors, then continue via Luoyang Longmen to Sanmenxia South. Typical end-to-end travel time is about 6 hours 30 minutes to 7 hours 30 minutes, depending on the number of stops (common calls include Nanjing South, Xuzhou East, Zhengzhou East, and Luoyang Longmen). Seating options usually include Second Class, First Class, and on select trains Business Class, with power outlets, seat-back tables, and trolley service.
Conventional Z/T overnight trains also link Shanghai with legacy stations in the Sanmenxia area (Sanmenxia or Sanmenxia West) along the Longhai line. These run at around 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph) and take roughly 12–15 hours, offering hard seat, soft seat, hard sleeper, and soft sleeper classes. They make more intermediate stops and suit travelers who prefer to sleep en route or arrive at the classic city stations.
For the quickest daytime trip, the G-series high-speed train to Sanmenxia South is the primary option, with some departures running direct and others involving a straightforward change at Zhengzhou East with similar total times. Travelers prioritizing an overnight schedule or traditional sleeper accommodations can choose the Z/T services.
