High-speed trains on the Shanghai to Shaoxing route run primarily from Shanghai Hongqiao to Shaoxing North (Shaoxingbei). You’ll find Second Class and First Class on both G and D services, with many G trains also offering Business Class. Rolling stock typically includes CRH380 and newer CR400 “Fuxing” sets on G trains, and CRH2/CRH5 variants on D trains.
The fastest option is the G-category high-speed train, operating at up to 300 km/h (186 mph) on the Shanghai–Hangzhou High-Speed Railway and around 250–300 km/h (155–186 mph) between Hangzhou East and Shaoxing North. These services often run with limited stops—commonly Shanghai Hongqiao, Hangzhou East, then Shaoxing North—and complete the trip in roughly 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes, depending on the timetable. In comparison, D-category high-speed trains cruise at up to 250 km/h (155 mph), make more intermediate stops along the Shanghai–Hangzhou corridor and between Hangzhou East and Shaoxing, and typically take about 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes.
Onboard, G and D trains provide assigned seating, power outlets, tray tables, and clean restrooms. Seating layouts generally follow 3+2 in Second Class, 2+2 in First Class, and 2+1 lie-flat or wide recliners in Business Class (where available). For the shortest travel time, choose a G train; for broader station coverage or lower fares, a D train can be suitable. A small number of conventional T/K services may run to the older Shaoxing station at lower speeds (generally below 160 km/h (99 mph)), taking 3–4+ hours and offering basic soft/hard seat or sleeper options.
