High-speed trains link Shanghai and Shuozhou primarily with one or two changes, most commonly at Zhengzhou East and Taiyuan South. G- and D-series services using Fuxing EMUs run from Shanghai Hongqiao, reaching 300–350 km/h (186–217 mph) on the Shanghai–Xuzhou–Zhengzhou corridor and around 250 km/h (155 mph) between Taiyuan South and Shuozhou East on the Datong–Xi’an high-speed line. Typical end-to-end travel time is about 6.5–8.5 hours depending on connections and stopping patterns. Seating includes Second, First, and Business Class, with power outlets and food trolley service on board. Conventional rail is also available, generally overnight via Taiyuan or Datong, and in some periods as direct or through-car services. These Z/K trains depart from Shanghai Railway Station, run at roughly 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph), and take about 16–20 hours. They offer Hard/Soft Seat and Hard/Soft Sleeper options, with more intermediate stops. For same-day arrival, the high-speed combination via Zhengzhou/Taiyuan is the faster choice, while overnight sleepers provide a cabin for the long journey at a lower cruising speed.
