On the Shanghai to Xiapu route, direct D-series high-speed trains run along the coastal corridor (Ningbo–Taizhou–Wenzhou and Wenzhou–Fuzhou railways), offering Second and First Class seating. These CRH sets (commonly CRH1A/CRH2A) operate on 200–250 km/h (124–155 mph) sections and can reach up to 250 km/h (155 mph), with semi-fast services making limited stops and typical end-to-end times of about 5.5–7 hours. Departures are usually from Shanghai Hongqiao, calling at key hubs such as Hangzhou East, Ningbo, and Wenzhou before reaching Xiapu in northern Fujian. An alternative is to combine a G-series high-speed train at 300–350 km/h (186–217 mph) from Shanghai to Ningbo or Wenzhou with a connecting D-series for the final leg to Xiapu. While the G segment is faster, the transfer and the 200–250 km/h (124–155 mph) coastal stretch mean the overall journey time is often comparable to the direct D service. G-series adds Business Class in addition to First and Second, whereas D-series is typically First and Second; both provide reserved seating, power outlets, and trolley refreshments.
