High-speed trains link Shanghai with Yangzhou primarily via the Shanghai–Nanjing high-speed corridor and the Lianyungang–Zhenjiang route into Yangzhou East. G- and D-series services (CRH Hexie and some Fuxing sets) run up to 300 km/h (186 mph) between Shanghai Hongqiao and Zhenjiang South, then continue toward Yangzhou East at up to around 250 km/h (155 mph). The quickest direct runs typically take about 1 hour 55 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes, with limited stops such as Suzhou North, Wuxi East, Changzhou North, Danyang North, or Zhenjiang South. When a change of high-speed train is required at Zhenjiang South, the total journey is usually around 2 to 2.5 hours.
Conventional K/T/Z services operate from Shanghai Station to Yangzhou (central city station) via the Nanjing–Yangzhou line, reaching top speeds of about 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph) and taking roughly 4 to 5.5 hours due to frequent intermediate stops. Onboard the high-speed trains, expect reserved seating in Second and First Class, with some Fuxing G-series also offering Business Class, power outlets, and trolley catering. Conventional trains provide Hard/Soft Seat and, on longer itineraries, Sleeper options, but with fewer modern amenities and a longer overall travel time.
