Traveling from Tainan to Taipei is supported by the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR), specifically by the THSR bullet trains, which provide a fast and efficient service between the two cities. On this route, the THSR can achieve speeds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph), making the journey in approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes with only a few stops, such as at Kaohsiung and Taichung.
In addition to the high-speed option, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) also operates conventional trains, including the Tze-Chiang Express. This train takes about 4 hours, making several more stops, which can be a good choice for those who wish to explore smaller towns along the route.
The THSR trains feature comfortable seating with the options of Standard and Business class, along with amenities such as Wi-Fi and refreshments available for purchase. The Tze-Chiang Express, while slower, provides its own charm with scenic views of the Taiwanese countryside and is equipped with basic comforts for budget-conscious travelers.
