Taiwan High Speed Rail, usually called THSR, runs on a dedicated west coast line from Taipei and Nangang to Taichung, Tainan, and Zuoying for Kaohsiung. The fastest Taipei to Zuoying services take about 1 hour 35 minutes, while Taipei to Taichung takes around 1 hour. THSR trains use reserved and non-reserved seating, with Business Class available on many departures.
Taiwan Railway Administration, branded as Taiwan Railway, operates the conventional network around the island. TRA Tze-Chiang Limited Express, Puyuma Express, Taroko Express, and regional trains serve Taipei, Hualien, Taitung, Yilan, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung. Taipei to Hualien takes about 2 hours on faster express services via the east coast line. There is no cross-border passenger rail from Taiwan, so all regular rail bookings are domestic. Main Train Types in Taiwan
THSR is Taiwan's high-speed service, running at up to 300 km/h between Nangang, Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, and Zuoying.
