Why can’t I cancel or change my ticket within 24 hours of departure?

Because almost all rail suppliers lock the ticket 12-24 hours before departure — and once that happens, the booking becomes final.

This is not a Rail Monsters rule — it’s an industry standard:

• Tickets are transmitted to national rail systems and locked for control/security

• Suppliers close all changes and refunds to prevent fraud and misuse

• Even if your train departs tomorrow at 18:00, the system shuts off refunds at 18:01 today

We display this rule at checkout, in your confirmation email, and again in your account.

But I haven’t received my ticket yet — why can’t I still change it?

Even if the physical ticket hasn’t been issued yet, your order is already placed and locked with the rail supplier:

• The booking is queued in the system, waiting operator for release

• Once inside the 24-hour window, the system prevents cancellations — even before ticket issuance

• This protects the seat and confirms the trip with the supplier

We recommend always making changes at least 2 days in advance.

What happens if I can’t travel anymore within 24 hours?

Unfortunately, your ticket is non-refundable at that point. The supplier does not allow any changes or refunds once the 24-hour window has started.

We understand this can be frustrating, but these terms are set by the rail providers and are outside our control. This is why we always advise checking your plans carefully before booking — or booking flexible tickets when available. However, in some countries unused tickets can be partially refunded (if that’t the case - you will get the refund automatically 7 days after your travel date, for more info check our Country specific guides)

Can support help me cancel manually in emergencies?

No — Rail Monsters agents do not have the ability to override this rule.

Support can assist with information, alternative booking options, or new reservations, but we cannot cancel, modify, or refund tickets that fall within 24 hours of the scheduled departure time — regardless of the situation.
