High-speed trains (G-series) connect Shanghai and Guilin via sections of the Shanghai–Kunming and Guiyang–Guangzhou high-speed corridors. Most services depart Shanghai Hongqiao and arrive at Guilin North or Guilin West. Operated by Fuxing (CR400) and Hexie (CRH380) sets, these high-speed trains run at up to 300–350 km/h (186–217 mph) on the fastest sections and typically complete the journey in about 9–11 hours, depending on the stopping pattern. Common intermediate stations include Hangzhou East, Nanchang West, and Changsha South (service patterns vary). Seats are offered in Second, First, and Business Class, with air-conditioning, power outlets, and a trolley service for refreshments.
Conventional overnight services (Z/T-series) also run between central Shanghai and Guilin Station, generally taking around 19–22 hours. These trains reach about 120–160 km/h (75–99 mph), make more intermediate stops, and offer Hard Seat, Hard Sleeper, and Soft Sleeper options, plus a dining car.
For a more premium experience on the high-speed option, Business Class provides wider seats that recline close to flat.
